Rant: Teens Aren’t Dumb (the mini version)

Teens aren’t dumb.

90% of the teens I know could handle my TV and logins better than me. When I need an App for something specific, I ask the teens I know. And they have always steered me well.

So, why, why, WHY would anyone feel the need to “dumb down” a book for them to read?

If we tell someone they need a simpler version of life, they’ll start to believe it.

And why, why, WHY would any publisher, EVER feel okay about doing this?

You work in the business of books, which is to say, the business of stimulating minds.

Oh, wait. This is another one of those things that’s about money, isn’t it?

Dear authors,

Don’t ever dumb down your books for teens, please? At least not if you want teens to keep reading teen lit.
